Senior Structural / Wood Engineer, PE
linkedinNew York (NY)
About the role
Head of Engineering | Remote, United States | Full-time | Reports to the CEO
Get the freedom to be you, in a company that values individuality. We are definitely different.
Evolution Industries makes structural Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) in our own plant. We need a senior engineer to head our engineering team and own the technical side: design guides, code evaluation reports and the test data behind every published value.
You report directly to the CEO, with no committees, no sign-off chains and no layers between you and the decisions. You lead the team, set the technical standards, and decide how the work gets done and what comes first. You bring your own style to it. We hold you to quality and deadlines, not to a schedule or a mould.
Engineered wood experience is essential
This is not a general civil or structural role, and it is not a way into wood. You must already have deep, hands-on experience in structural and engineered wood products such as LVL, glulam, I-joists or CLT. You must also know the building code evaluation report process from the inside: preparing the application, working through testing and reviewer comments, and keeping a report in good standing through renewals. Be ready to show it through design values, evaluation reports or technical literature you produced. If your background is mainly steel, concrete, residential plan review or general consulting, this is not the role for you.
What you'll own
Leading and directing our engineering team, including outside and contract engineers, and setting the standard for how we publish structural data
Our building code evaluation reports: new applications, reviewer responses, renewals and supplements
Design guides, span tables and technical bulletins for our full range of Engineered Wood Products
Test data and design values: working with third-party labs and deriving the values we publish
Technical support for distributors and designers
Required
Active US PE license (civil or structural)
Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field
7+ years of hands-on structural or engineered wood products
Direct experience with the building code evaluation report process, from application through approval and renewal
Design guides, span tables or technical literature you wrote that customers have used
Authorization to work in the US without sponsorship
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
Nice to have:
Experience at an LVL or other engineered wood manufacturer
Experience leading or mentoring engineers
Self-directed and comfortable making technical calls without needing sign-off
Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
