About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting function for a growing organization based in the DC metro area. This is a high-visibility role for a hands-on leader who can oversee financial reporting, internal controls, and team management while partnering closely with senior leadership.
What You'll Do:
- Own the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial statements
- Oversee GAAP-compliant financial reporting and ensure compliance with internal controls
- Manage and mentor the accounting team, providing guidance and professional development
- Partner with senior leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
- Manage relationships with external auditors and coordinate the annual audit process
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, and efficiencies
- Ensure compliance with tax filings and regulatory requirements
What We're Looking For:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required
- Big 4 public accounting background required 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including prior Controller or Assistant Controller-level experience
- Strong technical accounting knowledge (GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls)
- Proven ability to lead and develop a team
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Experience with [ERP system — e.g., NetSuite, Yardi, SAP] a plus
