About the role

Alpha Gov (Casa Moon LLC d/b/a Alpha Gov) delivers public-sector consulting for cities, counties, school systems, special districts, utilities, and related agencies. Our work spans classification and compensation, organizational and operational studies, research and program evaluation, economic and workforce analysis, surveys and community research, and applied data and infrastructure research. We engage experienced practitioners as project-based collaborators. Engagements are remote-first with occasional client travel. When you authorize it, Alpha Gov may name you as an expert collaborator or key personnel on proposals that match your expertise. We build ready teams for live pursuits - not speculative staffing banks. This opportunity is contingent upon contract award and final staffing approval. Permission will be requested before including a candidate's name or resume in a proposal. Alpha Gov is seeking a Visitor Research & Tourism Economist to support Hawaii DBEDT with visitor research, tourism-economics analysis, forecasting, survey interpretation, and clear reporting for public decision-makers and industry stakeholders.
What you'll do: Design or evaluate visitor, travel, and tourism research methods and instruments Analyze visitor volume, spending, markets, travel behavior, seasonality, and economic contribution Build defensible forecasts, dashboards, tables, and written findings from survey and administrative data Explain methods, limitations, and implications to agency leaders, community stakeholders, and industry audiences Contribute tourism research and economic-analysis qualifications to Alpha Gov proposals when permissioned
Requirements
Required: Tourism economics, visitor research, travel-demand analysis, or related public-sector research experience Strong quantitative analysis and ability to communicate results in decision-ready reports Comfortable as a 1099 / project-based collaborator with travel as needed for client on-sites
Nice to have: State tourism office, destination-management, visitor survey, or tourism-forecasting experience Experience with Hawaii, island, coastal, or destination economies Econometric, survey-methods, GIS, or data-visualization skills

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
