About the role
About Hang Smart At Hang Smart, we don’t just make hardware, we reinvent how people interact with their living spaces. We are the pioneers behind the patented, DIY, no-stud mounting systems that challenge traditional consumer hardware norms. By leveraging smart geometry, physics, and advanced materials, we enable everyday consumers to mount everything from massive 100-inch TVs to soundbars and smart devices safely without drilling massive holes or finding studs. We are a fast-growing, highly disruptive brand sold nationwide at major retailers and directly to consumers.
The Role:
Out-of-the-Box Innovator We are looking for an exceptional, radically creative Senior Mechanical Engineer who thinks completely outside the traditional constraints of standard engineering. You aren't just an optimizer; you are an inventor. You will own our product pipeline from raw, "crazy" concepts all the way to high-volume manufacturing. If you look at a complex mechanical problem and immediately start finding elegant, simple, physics-driven shortcuts that others miss, you belong here.
Key Responsibilities:
• Invention & Conceptualization: Brainstorm, sketch, and invent entirely new consumer hardware products and mechanisms that solve space-saving, structural, and mounting challenges.• Full-Lifecycle Development: Shepherd projects seamlessly from a rough sketch or prototype to a retail-ready product on store shelves.• Advanced CAD & Modeling: Build complex 3D assemblies, master surface modeling, and create variable material interfaces using tools like Solid Works or Fusion 360.• Engineering Simulation & Math: Perform precise stress, load distribution, and structural engineering calculations. Use FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to simulate forces (like ensuring our components can withstand distinct 90-degree downward pressure pull vectors).• Material & Molding Mastery: Guide strict material selection processes, understanding polymer behaviors, flexible vs. high-grade rigid plastics (like high-grade flex nylon), aluminum extrusions, and tactile optimization.• Design for Manufacturing (DFM): Design deeply intuitive tooling configurations optimized for high-volume injection molding, including complex side actions, overmolding, and minimizing assembly steps.• Physical Prototyping: Get your hands dirty. Build, test, and break rapid prototypes (3D printing, CNC machining, rapid tooling) to stress-test your concepts against real-world limitations.
What We’re Looking For:
• The "Inventor" Track Record: A proven portfolio of physical consumer products or hardware mechanisms that you have personally invented, patented, or brought from napkin sketch to mass manufacturing.• 7+ Years of Experience: High-level mastery in structural engineering, consumer electronics enclosures, or mechanical hardware design.• Plastics & Molding Expertise: Exhaustive knowledge of advanced plastics manufacturing, injection molding tooling constraints, and structural polymer choices.• Physics over Convention: Deep intuition for mechanics of materials, force distribution, and structural design limitations.• Relentless Problem Solver: An aggressive, proactive approach to design. When a hurdle arises, you don't say "it can't be done" you design an entirely new way to do it.
Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
