We are seeking a Commercial Lines Placement Consultant to provide commercial marketing and placement expertise to member agencies across our West region. This role matches risks with the appropriate markets, manages submissions from assignment through binding, and negotiates coverage and pricing to help member agencies win and retain profitable business. The ideal candidate has strong commercial lines placement experience, sound insurance technical knowledge, and the ability to work independently in a virtual environment while building effective relationships with agencies, carriers, and internal team members.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintains current working knowledge of carrier appetites, underwriting guidelines, products, coverage, and pricing across the assigned territory. Advises member agencies on placement options, coverage structure, and pricing strategy, including when a risk is better served by a specialty program, excess and surplus market, or direct appointment. Directs the preparation and delivery of complex risk submissions, ensuring all information is complete, accurate, and market-ready to support informed underwriting decisions and successful placement outcomes. Manages submissions across the full placement lifecycle, proactively monitoring status and escalating obstacles before they affect target dates. Negotiates coverage terms and pricing to deliver quotes and proposals on or before established target dates. Confirms that all conditional requirements of binding are satisfied within required timeframes. Leverages internal systems, carrier portals, and rating platforms to produce accurate, competitive quotes for submissions from assigned agencies. Builds and maintains durable professional relationships with member agency team members through open, direct, and proactive communication. Documents activity consistently within Renaissance agency management, content management, and proprietary carrier rating systems to support real-time data integrity and accurate metrics reporting. Follows standard operating policies and procedures and contributes ideas for continuous improvement. Promotes Renaissance placement initiatives, products, and specialty programs, educating member agencies on the competitive advantages and specific features of Renaissance value-added products and services. Collaborates with other Renaissance functional teams and participates in assigned and voluntary company-wide projects and initiatives. Provides backup support for other team members and performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: In-depth knowledge of commercial insurance, risk management, underwriting principles, carrier appetites, coverage forms, and loss control considerations including active Property & Casualty insurance license, or the ability to obtain required licensure within six months of hire. Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills. Capacity to manage multiple submissions, deadlines, and stakeholder expectations simultaneously. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with agency partners, carrier underwriters, and internal team members while explaining placement options, negotiating terms, and resolving issues. Experience working independently in a virtual environment while contributing to a collaborative, team-based model. Proactive approach to improving product knowledge and technical expertise through on-the-job learning, self-study, carrier resources, and formal industry training.
