Underwriting Assistant Required Education High school diploma or equivalent Required Qualification Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment. Analytical mindset with intellectual curiosity and a willingness to learn insurance and underwriting concepts. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent customer-service skills and professional judgment. Strong time-management and organizational skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team. Preferred Qualification Insurance, mortgage, banking, financial services, or other regulated operations experience. Prior underwriting, policy administration, claims, agency, or insurance-services experience. Familiarity with building construction types, property terminology, or property inspections. Completion of, or progress toward, insurance or financial-services designations.
Required Skills:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.
Overview:
Join an experienced, collaborative underwriting team and gain hands-on exposure to the insurance industry, Managing General Agency (MGA) operations, property risk, and underwriting decision-making. As an Underwriting Assistant, you will support day-to-day production activities while developing an understanding of how catastrophic risk modeling and property information influence underwriting, pricing, business planning, capital, and risk management. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their insurance or financial-services career who wants to build meaningful underwriting experience rather than perform purely administrative work.
Responsibilities:
Support the timely distribution of policy correspondence, legal documents, and other underwriting materials by mail and email. Assist with building inspections and review findings to validate property information and identify atypical or non-standard conditions. Communicate relevant findings and exceptions clearly and within established service standards. Develop working knowledge of agency management, product distribution, claims processes, and underwriting practices. Communicate professionally with agencies, internal teams, and other stakeholders through email and appropriate business channels. Partner with Compliance, Claims, Product, Underwriting, and Operations teams to identify process improvements and support product enhancements. Provide feedback and recommendations to leadership to improve processes, service, and operational efficiency. Step in to support other team members during peak workloads or absences to maintain business continuity. Build knowledge of how property characteristics, catastrophic risk, and analytical information support sound risk selection. Only those lawfully authorized to work in the designated country associated with the position will be considered. Please note that all Position start dates and duration are estimates and may be reduced or lengthened based upon a client's business needs and requirements.
Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
