About the role

Our client is a highly established alternative investment firm with a broad, multi-strategy investment platform. They are seeking a senior Head of Valuations to lead and further develop its valuation function across a diverse portfolio of private and illiquid investments. This is a highly visible leadership role with responsibility for valuation strategy, governance, processes, people, and technology. The successful candidate will serve as a key advisor to senior leadership and partner closely with investment, accounting, finance, legal, tax, audit, and other corporate functions.
Key Responsibilities: Lead the firm-wide valuation function across a diverse portfolio of private and illiquid investments. Set the strategy and operating model for the function, including people, processes, technology, automation, and AI.Oversee quarterly and periodic valuation processes, including complex investments across the capital structure. Lead valuation governance and committee discussions, presenting key judgments, methodologies, and conclusions to senior leadership and auditors. Partner closely with investment teams to evaluate valuation assumptions and ensure consistent, well-supported conclusions. Build, manage, and develop a high-performing valuation team, including hiring, coaching, and succession planning. Oversee relationships with external valuation firms, fund administrators, auditors, and other service providers. Serve as the firm's senior valuation subject matter expert and advise on complex valuation and fair value matters. Drive process improvements and scalability across the valuation function, leveraging technology and automation. Ideal Candidates:15+ years of valuation experience within an alternative investment firm, Big 4/valuation advisory firm, or independent valuation firm. Deep knowledge of US GAAP / ASC 820 and private-market valuation methodologies. Significant experience with private equity, private credit, or other illiquid investments. Proven leadership and team-building experience. Strong executive presence and ability to partner across investment and corporate functions. CPA, CFA, CAIA, or similar designation preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field.
