Preschool Assistant Qualifications / Requirements
Education and Experience:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Twelve (12) units of Early Childhood Education (ECE) or Child Development (CD), and recent paid or volunteer experience working with school-age children; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Licenses, Certificates and Other Requirements:
A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance program may be required in some assignments.
Annual certification for CPR and First Aid required within three months of appointment and during the course of employment.
A Child Development Associate Teacher Permit or higher is required and must be maintained.
Immunizations required for licensing purposes, if applicable to assignment.

Primary Functions Under general supervision, assists preschool classroom teachers by performing a variety of tasks that teach language, social and motor skills to preschool-aged or prekindergarten-aged children in a preschool setting; prepares materials used for activities and instruction; performs basic clerical support in the classroom; assists with assessing student progress; provides outdoor supervision for children; and performs related duties as assigned.
