Business Process Automation Engineer – Appian New York City | Hybrid – 4 Days Onsite / 1 Day Remote Our client, a leading global investment management firm, is looking for a hands-on Business Process Automation Engineer to help build and scale its enterprise process automation environment. This is a senior individual contributor role for someone who enjoys being close to the technology while also working directly with business stakeholders. You'll take manual and semi-automated processes and turn them into structured, scalable solutions using Appian. This is an opportunity to have significant ownership over how automation is designed and implemented across a growing organization.
What You'll Do: Design, develop, and maintain enterprise workflow applications using Appian Build Appian process models, records, interfaces, expression rules, forms, reports, and integrations Partner directly with business teams to understand existing processes and identify opportunities for automation Translate manual processes, spreadsheets, email-based workflows, and disconnected systems into structured applications Build and maintain integrations between Appian and enterprise systems using REST/SOAP APIs and other data sources Design approval workflows, case-management processes, notifications, SLA monitoring, and escalation frameworks Establish scalable standards around process design, security, governance, and reusable components Troubleshoot and enhance existing applications and integrations Help shape the longer-term automation architecture as the platform grows Examples of Projects You may work on initiatives such as: Building an intake and approval workflow for legal document reviews Developing operational checklists to ensure critical daily activities are completed Creating compliance and tax calendars that track deadlines and missing deliverables Automating approval processes and notifications across multiple departments Replacing spreadsheet- and email-driven processes with scalable workflow applications What We're Looking For 7+ years of experience in process automation, workflow engineering, or enterprise application development Strong hands-on Appian development experience Experience building Appian process models, records, interfaces, integrations, and expression rules Experience integrating Appian with enterprise systems and APIsStrong understanding of workflow automation and business process improvement Experience designing approval workflows, case-management solutions, and escalation processes Ability to work directly with business stakeholders and translate requirements into technical solutions Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Process Management, or a related field
Nice to Have: Appian Certified Developer or Senior Developer certification Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate / Power Apps)Workato or similar integration/automation platformsSQLRPA experience, including Appian RPA or UiPath Microsoft 365 / Share Point integration experience Experience with AI-enabled workflows, intelligent document processing, or Appian AI capabilities Financial services, private equity, legal, or professional services experience Location & Schedule This position is based in Midtown Manhattan with a hybrid schedule: Monday–Thursday onsite | Friday remote Regular working hours are 8:00 AM–6:00 PM ET.
