About the role

Our client, an established Property & Casualty insurance organization, is seeking an accomplished Chief Underwriting Officer to join its executive leadership team. This individual will provide enterprise-level direction for underwriting and help shape the company’s approach to risk, profitability, portfolio development, and long-term growth. The ideal candidate will be a highly technical underwriting executive with broad Commercial P&C experience who can balance strategic leadership with active involvement in complex underwriting matters. This position will work closely with senior leaders across the organization and play an important role in strengthening underwriting performance as the company continues to grow. Provide strategic direction for underwriting across a diversified Commercial P&C portfolio. Evaluate overall book performance and identify opportunities to improve profitability, risk diversification, and sustainable growth. Partner with underwriting leadership to establish consistent risk selection and pricing practices throughout the organization. Work collaboratively with Actuarial, Claims, Finance, Legal, Technology, and other business functions on company-wide initiatives. Provide leadership around underwriting governance, controls, quality, and consistency across multiple business segments.
Qualifications: 10+ years of significant career progression within Commercial Property & Casualty Underwriting, including senior leadership responsibility. Broad technical underwriting expertise across specialty and complex commercial risks. Proven experience overseeing sizable or diversified underwriting portfolios. Demonstrated success leading underwriting teams and developing senior-level talent. Strong understanding of portfolio profitability, pricing discipline, risk aggregation, and underwriting performance. Experience working with reinsurance and other external risk-capital partners. Ability to evaluate complex underwriting issues from both a technical and enterprise perspective. Strong executive presence with the ability to work effectively across multiple departments and levels of leadership. Excellent analytical, communication, decision-making, and relationship-management skills. College degree required; advanced education and professional insurance designations are valued.
