Commonwealth Fusion Systems is on a mission to deliver the urgent transition to fusion energy. Combining decades of research, top talent, and new technologies, we’re designing and building commercially viable fusion power plants. And we're working with policymakers, suppliers, and many others to build the energy industry of the future. We’re in the best position to make it happen. Since 2018, we’ve raised $4 billion of capital, making us the largest and leading fusion company in the world. Now we’re looking for more thinkers, doers, builders, and makers to join us. People who’ll bring new perspectives, solve tough problems, and thrive as part of a team. If that’s you and this role fits, we want to hear from you. The Senior Manager, Manufacturing Engineering will be responsible for leading the manufacturing engineering organization across multiple production sites, including CFS1 and Fusionova, supporting the scale-up of advanced magnet component and assembly manufacturing from development through full-scale production. This leader is responsible for defining and executing the manufacturing engineering strategy across sites, developing high-performing teams and managers, and establishing scalable manufacturing systems to support aggressive production and operational goals. They are responsible for developing and standardizing manufacturing techniques, scaling production capability, driving operational excellence, resolving complex manufacturing challenges, and partnering cross‑functionally to ensure manufacturing readiness across all phases of production.
What you’ll do:
Lead and develop manufacturing engineering teams across multiple sites, including managers, technical leads, and engineers Define and execute the manufacturing engineering strategy supporting production, quality, capacity, and cost objectives across CFS1 and Fusionova Establish standardized manufacturing processes, tooling strategies, work instructions, and operational best practices across facilities Own process development of the manufacturing line for HTS magnets from low-volume R&D builds through full-scale production Develop and qualify manufacturing techniques, automation strategies, process flows, and work instructions for superconducting magnet components and
Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
