About the role

About DESRIDESRI (formerly D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments) is a market-leading owner and operator of renewable energy projects throughout the United States. We have acquired or developed approximately 13 gigawatts of contracted capacity across a portfolio of over 85 renewable energy projects in 24 states. At DESRI, our culture is grounded in rigorous analytics and thoughtful risk-taking, with a strong emphasis on creativity, intellectual curiosity, and continuous improvement. We operate with lean teams that prioritize efficiency and minimize unnecessary bureaucracy, enabling individuals to take ownership and move quickly. We value open, constructive dialogue and believe it leads to better outcomes. Above all, we are driven to go the extra mile and support one another, fostering a collaborative environment built on accountability, integrity, and care.
About the role: DESRI seeks a talented and highly motivated individual to join its team as either an associate or manager of development (title commensurate with experience). This role will lead the development of renewable energy projects and participate in the acquisition of renewable energy assets in an inclusive, collaborative, and engaging working environment.
What you'll do: DESRI developers are tasked with identifying, managing, and implementing early- and mid-stage renewable projects to mitigate risks to mature development, financing, construction, and long-term management. This can include identifying opportunities for new projects or investments in attractive markets for renewable energy, negotiating with real estate counterparties, identifying power marketing opportunities, and navigating technical interconnection and permitting issues. You'll work with a team of other developers in a dynamic and agile organization. Day-to-day activities will include researching and communicating with counterparties (such as landowners, local and state permitting authorities, engineering and design professionals, electric utilities companies, corporate off-takers, and others) to effectively translate complex pieces of information into clear financial models while keeping projects on schedule and on budget. This role may focus on recontracting operating assets and/or the development of surplus battery energy storage projects.
Qualifications: Three or more years of renewable energy development experience is required, as is an awareness of technical, commercial, regulatory, and operational issues. Intellectually curious individuals with well-developed written and verbal communication skills, analytical acumen, and proven organizational abilities will excel in this role. Applicants should have an undergraduate or graduate degree in any field and an impressive background of academic and professional achievement. At DESRI, we consider a wide range of factors to determine your compensation. We rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, location, skills, and experience. The expected annual base salary for this position is $100,000 - $150,000.Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, paid time off, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
