Job Summary: Responsible for the development, implementation, and management of the Abbe Clubhouse physical education and athletic programs. Program focus is on the physical and social-emotional development of boys and young men ages 7 to 20 years old.
Responsibilities: Develop and implement a comprehensive physical education program, offering a range of skill-building activities and competitive sports. Working with the Clubhouse Director and Human Resources Department, manage the hiring, supervision, training, and evaluation of department personnel and volunteers. Administer the Physical Education Department budget. Utilize the mission and core values of the Boys’ Club of New York in building a foundation for all programs and activities. Work closely with clubhouse staff to recruit members. Complete and submit required data and reports regarding service delivery and performance, and members’ participation and development. Manage equipment and facilities. Collaborate with Gerry staff to develop and execute clubhouse wide initiatives and special programs. Represent BCNY at community and professional meetings relevant to physical education, recreation, fitness, and competitive sports. Work closely with members of the physical education cluster and program development team to create and implement new programs, and assess quality of current programs.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in physical education, recreation, or a related field preferred. Minimum three years’ relevant professional experience required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated knowledge of physical education, youth sports, and youth development Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to develop and implement evidenced based curricula Ability to create high quality programs and mentoring initiatives Creative, high energy, self-starter Emotionally intelligent team player Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends
