About the role
Position Summary:
The Mechanical Project Manager serves as the primary leader for all mechanical construction activities on assigned projects. This individual oversees planning, execution, staffing, subcontractor performance, budgeting, client communication, procurement coordination, scheduling, and project closeout. The successful candidate possesses extensive experience managing mechanical scopes on large industrial or mission-critical projects including HVAC systems, chilled water systems, process piping, plumbing, fire protection, equipment setting, structural coordination, commissioning support, and startup. This position requires a leader capable of managing multiple stakeholders while driving safety, quality, productivity, and financial performance.
Primary Responsibilities:
Project Leadership Lead mechanical construction activities from project kickoff through turnover Develop and execute project execution plans Ensure project objectives are achieved safely and efficiently Establish project priorities and communicate expectations clearly Lead project meetings with clients, subcontractors, engineering teams, and field supervision Maintain ownership of project deliverables throughout the lifecycle Construction Management Manage all mechanical installation activities including: HVAC systems, Chilled water systems, Condenser water systems, Mechanical piping Plumbing systems, Fire protection systems, Utility piping, Equipment installation Cooling systems, Pump systems, Mechanical rooms, Process piping Hydronic systems, Pressure testing, Equipment setting and alignment Mechanical commissioning support Project budgets, Cost forecasting, Labor forecasting, Productivity tracking Change orders, Contract compliance, Purchase orders, Vendor management Equipment rentals, Cost reporting, Forecast accuracy Daily client communication, Weekly progress meetings, Executive reporting Schedule updates, Budget discussions, Issue resolution, Scope clarification Risk mitigation, Relationship management Project specifications, Engineering drawings, Client requirements Applicable building codes, ASME standards, ASTM standardsNFPA requirements, Manufacturer recommendations Inspection plans, Mechanical testing, Punch lists, Turnover documentation Commissioning support, Final acceptance Long-lead equipment, Mechanical materials, Vendor schedules Delivery sequencing, Inventory management, Expediting, Material shortages, Procurement forecasting Managing contracts, Monitoring productivity, Reviewing schedules, Approving invoices Evaluating manpower, Driving accountability, Coordinating field activities, Resolving conflicts Field Leadership Provide leadership to: Mechanical Superintendents, Mechanical Coordinators, Field Engineers Foremen, Craft Professionals, Subcontractors
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred Equivalent industrial construction experience considered 8-15+ years of industrial construction experience 5+ years managing mechanical construction projects Experience with EPC contractors preferred Experience on data centers strongly preferred Experience on industrial megaprojects preferred Required Technical Experience Demonstrated experience managing: HVAC systems, Chilled water plants, Cooling towers, Process piping Utility piping, Plumbing systems, Mechanical equipment installation Pumps, Heat exchangers, Fire protection systems Large bore piping, Mechanical rooms, Industrial facilities
Preferred experience includes:
Mission Critical facilities Semiconductor facilitiesLNG facilities Strong knowledge of: Mechanical construction methods, Industrial piping, Welding procedures Hydrotesting, Mechanical codes, Commissioning, Scheduling software Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam Procore, BIM coordination Cost control, Contract administration, Productivity analysis, Risk management
