About the role
- An established construction company is seeking a Purchasing Coordinator. This position will serve as an important connection between project teams, suppliers, accounting, preconstruction, and other internal departments.
- This is not a purely transactional purchasing position. The Purchasing Coordinator will take ownership of purchasing needs once they are initiated by the job sites, working closely with project teams and vendors to keep materials and purchasing activities moving forward.
- A Typical Day Includes...Coordinate purchasing activities for a large portfolio of active construction projects.
- Take ownership of POs after they are initiated by project teams and manage the purchasing process from that point forward.
- Serve as a primary purchasing resource for field and project teams, building strong working relationships and responding to material and procurement needs.
- Review supplier quotes and partner with project teams to evaluate purchasing options.
- Communicate with suppliers regarding orders, pricing, material availability, and other purchasing needs.
- Develop and maintain productive relationships with key suppliers and manufacturer representatives.
- Support pricing discussions and negotiations with vendors.
- Monitor material purchasing agreements and maintain accurate supporting records and tracking.
- Help project teams identify solutions for excess or unused materials.
- Track purchasing activity, spending patterns, cost savings, and other key performance metrics.
- Maintain purchasing data and reporting using Excel and other procurement systems.
- Assist with purchasing process improvements and the implementation of new procedures.
- Prepare purchasing communications and updates for project teams and other departments.
- Coordinate supplier meetings, site visits, appointments, and vendor-sponsored educational events.
- Collaborate regularly with accounting, preconstruction, project teams, field personnel, and other departments.
- The Experience You Bring:
- Prior purchasing experience is required.3-4 years of purchasing or procurement experience.
- Construction industry experience is strongly preferred.
- Previous experience communicating and building relationships with suppliers and vendors.
- Intermediate Excel skills, including experience using VLOOKUPs.
- Ability to think on your feet.
- Ability to live in the details.
- Must be intuitive and resourceful.
- Must have clear, confident communication.
- Experience supporting a large organization, significant project portfolio, or high-volume purchasing environment is highly preferred.
