- Bachelor's Degree in Mental Retardation from an accredited college or university
- Valid Michigan Teacher Certificate in Mental/Cognitive Impairment
- Meets the requirements of Special Education Rules
- Ability to physically manage, lift, and interact with students of varying physical sizes and abilities as needed
- Valid driver's license if driving is required for job-related responsibilities
