About the role

Are you interested in leading agentic development at a robotics startup looking to build their platform? A construction robotics company is making three purpose hires to build the brain of its robotics platform, and this is the role at the center of it. You’ll design and own the planning stack: a system that takes in what the robots see, reasons about it, and decides what to do next. This is platform work, not a single robot solving a single task. You’ll build the layer that every future product runs on. They care far more about what you’ve built than how long you’ve been doing it. Senior or principal experience is welcome, but the title alone won’t get you there. You'll need to have proven systems experience where you’ve shipped systems that use modern AI models to plan and reason in the real world. AI changes every week, and this firm wants someone who gets excited by that and adapts quickly, not someone attached to the way it was done three years ago. You’ll work closely with a perception engineer and a robot learning engineer to build the full stack together, and you’ll help guide both of them along the way. The wider team is early in their careers, so your experience will shape how they grow. Once the build is done, you stay on as a technical thought leader setting the direction for what comes next. If you have experience driving AI engineering at a robotics company, this could be the role for you. This will be a hybrid role in Chicago. No up-to-date resume required. Apply now!

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
