Pediatric Ophthalmologist (MD/DO)
Position Summary: The Pediatric Ophthalmologist provides comprehensive medical and surgical care for eye disorders affecting infants, children, and adolescents. This role focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of congenital, developmental, and acquired pediatric eye conditions, delivering evidence-based, family-centered care in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Evaluate and manage pediatric patients with ocular and visual disordersDiagnose and treat conditions such as strabismus, amblyopia, congenital cataracts, pediatric glaucoma, retinopathy of prematurity, and refractive disordersPerform pediatric ophthalmic surgical procedures consistent with training and privilegesProvide medical management and longitudinal follow-up care for acute and chronic pediatric eye conditionsPerform and interpret ophthalmic diagnostic testing and imaging appropriate for pediatric patientsCollaborate with pediatricians, neonatologists, neurologists, geneticists, and other specialistsParticipate in care of premature infants and NICU consultations, as applicableEducate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and visual developmentMaintain accurate and timely clinical documentationParticipate in quality improvement, patient safety, and outcomes initiativesSupervise and educate residents, fellows, advanced practice providers, or clinical staff as applicableComply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards Qualifications Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical schoolCompletion of an accredited ophthalmology residency programCompletion of an accredited pediatric ophthalmology fellowshipBoard-eligible or board-certified in OphthalmologyAbility to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensureDEA registration or eligibility Skills and Competencies Expertise in pediatric ophthalmology and pediatric surgical techniquesStrong diagnostic and clinical decision-making skillsExcellent communication and family counseling abilitiesAbility to work effectively with children and caregiversCommitment to evidence-based, patient- and family-centered care Work Environment Outpatient pediatric ophthalmology clinics, surgical centers, and hospital settingsCall coverage as determined by practice or service needs Physical Requirements Ability to sit and stand for extended periodsManual dexterity for pediatric examinations and surgical proceduresVisual acuity sufficient for detailed ophthalmic evaluation and microsurgery
