About the role
- Maintains liaison with appropriate state department and federal agencies having regulatory authority for school nutrition
- Evaluates continuously all programs and regulations in order that the system will be in compliance and no funding sources lost
- Exercises quality control over school nutrition programs
- Analyzes data to identify program weaknesses and upgrades food service programs which will result in more efficient and equitable service throughout the system
- Develops, implements, and evaluates the distribution of USDA donated foods
- Communicates with principals to interpret and clarify the operational policies and procedures of the school nutrition program and keep them aware of current changes
- Directs, plans, and refines suitable training for school nutrition personnel, principals, secretaries, and substitutes
- Keeps current with changing local, state and federal regulations
- Prepares required reports
- Tracks revenues and expenditures by object codes
- Provides nutritional education to students and staff members within the system
- Maintains food specifications for food products and determines suitable products for use in the breakfast and lunch food service programs
- Plans menus for all child nutrition programs
- Visits schools on a regular basis to evaluate individual child nutrition programs as required
- Assumes responsibility for the ordering, allocation and billing of foods and supplies, including USDA donated foods
- Coordinates the delivery and ordering of food and supplies by the vendors to appropriate sites
- Monitors contractor compliance of contractual terms and conditions
- Monitors equipment needs of the various schools
- Informs and makes recommendations to the administration concerning the operation of the school nutrition programs
- Coordinates maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities with internal and external sources
- Conducts follow-up on completed repairs and maintenance
- Develops and implements innovative new programs designed to increase meal participation
- Investigate complaints related to the school nutrition program
- Completes reports accurately and in a timely fashion
- Maintains accurate financial data
- Prepares the annual financial statement for school nutrition
- Visit schools to evaluate individual child nutrition programs and computer point of service operation
- Attend school nutrition program meetings in order to stay current with program and/or policy changes
- Implements free/reduced price meal program in a manner that protects and preserves the civil rights of all students
- Implements corrective action when needed to address any deficiencies identified within the child nutrition program
- Provides leadership in developing recipes following USDA guidelines
- Ensures production records are completed accurately and timely in each school
- Retains appropriate financial and participation records
- Advises the Personnel Department of appropriate food service staffing requirements at each school and provide necessary documents for personnel decisions
- Performs such other duties as assigned by the superintendent
