Position Overview: Our nonprofit organization is seeking an experienced and hands-on HR Manager to support all aspects of Human Resources in a fully remote environment. This contract-to-hire opportunity is ideal for an HR professional who enjoys wearing multiple hats and can effectively manage payroll, employee relations, leave administration, recruiting support, HR operations, and process improvement initiatives. The HR Manager will serve as a key resource for employees and leadership, ensuring HR programs, policies, and procedures are administered effectively across multiple states while helping to build and improve scalable HR processes.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Administration: Manage and process payroll accurately and on time. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations. Coordinate payroll-related audits, reporting, and reconciliations. Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll inquiries.
Leave & Absence Management: Administer FMLA, ADA, workers' compensation, paid leave, and other leave programs. Partner with employees and managers throughout the leave process. Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with applicable regulations. Coordinate with third-party leave administrators as needed.
HR Operations: Oversee day-to-day HR activities and employee support. Maintain employee records and HR documentation. Assist with employee onboarding and offboarding processes. Support policy administration and compliance initiatives.
Recruiting Support: Partner with hiring managers throughout the recruitment process. Coordinate job postings, candidate screening, interviews, and offer processes. Support workforce planning and hiring initiatives. Assist in creating a positive candidate experience.
HR Projects & Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve HR processes and efficiencies. Develop and implement HR procedures, workflows, and best practices. Support HR initiatives, system implementations, and organizational projects. Assist with employee engagement and retention efforts.
Multi-State HR Administration: Ensure compliance with employment laws across multiple states. Support employee relations and HR policy interpretation. Monitor regulatory changes and recommend policy updates. Maintain compliance with nonprofit and employment-related requirements.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.5+ years of progressive Human Resources experience. Strong experience with payroll processing and leave administration. Knowledge of multi-state employment laws and HR compliance. Experience supporting recruiting and talent acquisition efforts. Proficiency with HRIS and payroll systems. Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working within a nonprofit organization. HR certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR) preferred. Experience leading HR process improvement initiatives and special projects.
