Position Summary:
Rocky Mountain Building Solutions is seeking a customer-focused Retail Associate to join our team. This position serves as a key point of contact for contractors, homeowners, builders, and remodelers purchasing lumber, building materials, rebar, paint, and related products. The Retail Associate provides outstanding customer service, maintains merchandise displays and inventory, processes sales transactions, and helps customers find the right solutions for their projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Customer Service & SalesGreet customers promptly and professional
- Maintain strong relationships with repeat customers and contractor accounts
- Assist contractors and homeowners in selecting appropriate building materials and products
- Answer questions regarding lumber, hardware, doors, windows, and related building products
- Generate quotes and assist customers with product recommendations
- Process sales transactions, returns, exchanges, and special orders
- Promote additional products and services when appropriate
Assist customers in selecting paints, stains, primers, coatings, and related paint accessories for residential and commercial projects.
Mix and tint paint colors using computerized color-matching and dispensing equipment.
Accurately match customer paint samples and existing colors while maintaining quality and consistency.
Store Operations
Stock shelves, displays, racks, and sales floor merchandise
Monitor inventory levels and notify management of low stock items
Assist with receiving, checking, and organizing incoming inventory
Conduct inventory procurement and sourcing of new and alternative product lines
Maintain clean, organized, and safe retail and warehouse areas
Participate in inventory counts and cycle counts
Sales & Fulfillment Support
Direct customers to material pickup locations
Assist in loading customer purchases when needed
Coordinate with yard, warehouse, and delivery personnel
Participate in training and product knowledge development
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GEDBasic point-of-sale system proficiency
- Dependable attendance and strong work ethic
- Strong customer service orientation and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency with standard office software and equipment (Microsoft Office, email, etc.)Strong written and verbal communication skills (phone and email)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous retail, hardware, lumber yard, building materials, or construction experience
- Knowledge of lumber, framing materials, paint products, rebar, hardware, or general construction
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills

- Ability to perform basic to intermediate math, including measurements, quantities, and material calculations
- Ability to learn building material products and applications
- Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment
- Time management and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

- Work Environment
- Retail location-based role with computer work and outside yard exposure
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Constant communication with customers, contractors, and internal teams
- Frequent handling of materials of various sizes, lengths, and weights up to 80 lbs
- Work Schedule
- Full-time, M – F, 7AM – 5 PMFlexibility to support operations as business needs require
