About the role
- Bachelor's degree in Fine Art with a concentration in Ceramics or a closely related field; and
- Three years of recreation or related experience
- Four years of comparable experience as a pottery studio manager (preferred)
- Prior experience loading and firing kilns is requiredCPR and First Aid/AED Certification (must be obtained within 90 days of hire)
- Previous experience working with youth and adults preferred
- Prior pottery teaching experience preferred
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of:
- Principles, practices, and policies of a variety of municipal recreation programs and activities
- Customer service techniques
- Policies and regulations affecting the operation of a pottery studio and art center
- Skill in:
- First Aid and CPRUsing pottery tools and equipment and other art-related materials
- Proactively assisting people in an art studio environment
- Cost vs benefit analysis
- Ability to:
- Plan, organize, and supervise various art activities
- Supervise the work of subordinate personnel and volunteers
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Operate assigned office equipment, including computer equipment and various software packages
- Operate pottery equipment, including pottery wheels, kilns, pug mill, and other various pottery-related items
- Meet the mental and physical demands of position
- Work cooperatively with City officials, other employees, and the general public
- Valid North Carolina driver's license and acceptable driving record
- Must possess (or obtain within 90 days of hire) and maintain valid Red Cross First Aid, AED, and CPR certifications
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
