Role Description: The Senior Credit Underwriter is a full-time, on-site role based in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. This role is responsible for evaluating and underwriting commercial and consumer loan requests, including assessing creditworthiness, analyzing financial statements, and determining appropriate loan structures and terms. The Senior Credit Underwriter will prepare clear credit memos, recommend approval or decline decisions, and ensure compliance with bank policies, regulatory requirements, and risk management guidelines. Daily activities include collaborating with relationship managers and loan officers, communicating with clients as needed to clarify financial information, and maintaining accurate documentation in the bank’s systems. The role also involves monitoring existing loan portfolios, identifying early warning signs, contributing to credit policy improvements, and mentoring junior underwriting staff.
Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong Credit Underwriting and Underwriting skills, with experience in commercial and consumer loan analysis. Candidates should possess robust Analytical Skills for reviewing financial statements, cash flow, collateral, and overall credit risk. Candidates should possess effective Communication skills, including the ability to prepare concise credit memos and collaborate with internal stakeholders and clients. Candidates should possess knowledge of Loans, including structures, lending regulations, and credit policies. Relevant qualifications include several years of progressive credit underwriting experience in banking or financial services, preferably in a community or commercial bank environment. Additional beneficial qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field; proficiency with loan origination and core banking systems; and familiarity with regulatory guidelines and risk management practices. Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, integrity, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment are important for success in this role. Support internal and external loan reviews, audits, and regulatory examinations. Mentor and train Credit Analysts and junior underwriters to enhance credit administration capabilities. Stay informed regarding economic trends, industry developments, and regulatory changes affecting commercial lending. Education Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field required. Formal banking or commercial credit training preferred. Experience Minimum of 5 years of commercial lending and credit underwriting experience within a bank or financial institution. Demonstrated experience underwriting commercial real estate, commercial and industrial (C&I), owner-occupied real estate, and complex commercial credit relationships. Experience preparing detailed cash flow analyses, risk assessments, and credit presentations.
