About the role
- Provide supervision for students who are assigned to the In-School Suspension (ISI) classroom.
- Establish high standards and expectations for all students to accept responsibility for behavior.
- Review in-school suspension policies, procedures and student expectations with students daily.
- Maintain an atmosphere in which students are expected to remain seated and silent during the time period.
- Work with the administration to have in-school serve as an effective preventative disciplinary technique.
- Engage the learners in differentiated learning experiences for the range of skill levels and developmental needs found in the classroom, managing, when appropriate, multiple instructional activities simultaneously.
- Provide a nurturing, supportive, and positive classroom climate that encourages student responsibility, using positive motivation, clear classroom routines, challenging instructional strategies, and effective classroom management techniques.
- Ensure the safety and health of all students, notifying the administration of any unsafe conditions, following established procedures.
- Discipline students in a fair and consistent manner, using school approved procedures.
- Seek assistance of the parents and the administration when needed.
- Establish a professional rapport with students that earns their respect.
- Employ a variety of methods for students to demonstrate learning and accomplishments.
- Work with students and or other staff members during student reflection period on issues such as behavior management and the prevention of undesirable behaviors that resulted in student being assigned to the ISI classroom.
- Monitor all ISI assignments; provide encouragement and feedback to students, monitor tests, computer work and provide instructional assistance as appropriate.
- Participate in curriculum and program development, and in the selection of materials and equipment to support instruction.
- Continue to grow professionally through collaboration with colleagues and professional growth experiences.
- Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information with legal confines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education and/or Experience:
- Experience with middle or high school students
- Current Michigan teacher certificate
- Three (3) or more years experience in the classroom with thorough knowledge of behavior management strategies
