Reporting to the Director of Operations, you'll help keep our benefits administration running smoothly and accurately — supporting member districts, safeguarding data integrity, and making sure our participants get clear answers when they need them most.

Job Summary:
The Operations Specialist I manages day-to-day benefits administration systems, including COBRA and retiree healthcare plans, and associated district and member communications. This role troubleshoots system issues, supports data accuracy and integrity, and assists member school districts with complex benefit questions while ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. Additionally, this role supports the leadership team with administrative, clerical, and project duties, including coordination of scheduling, postage and mail, and travel.
Duties
Benefits:
System Management: Navigate and update benefits administration software and data portals. COBRA Administration: Process COBRA enrollments, track qualifying events, and send timely participant notices.
Retiree Benefits:
Manage retiree plan changes, eligibility verifications, premium billing, and retiree communication. Data Quality: Perform routine audits of district and member records and fix discrepancies quickly. Member Support: Answer escalated questions from participants about their health coverage options. Team Support: Assist account service team with benefits administration needs and support leadership team with administrative functions.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Time Management: Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines. Communication: Clear verbal and written skills to help members navigate complex choices.
Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office software suite, in particular Excel.
Education: High school diploma required; a bachelor’s degree in a related field is a plus.
Desired Skills & Qualifications
Experience:
Two to three years of work in benefits administration or health insurance operations. Knowledge: Strong understanding of COBRA, HIPAA, and retiree medical plan rules.
Technical Skills: Experience with benefits administration platforms and advanced Excel.
