(No 3rd party inquiries please) Staff Android Engineer We’re looking for a Staff Android Engineer to provide technical leadership across the Android platform. This is a highly hands-on role focused on Android architecture, platform development, developer productivity, and emerging technologies.
What You’ll Do: Spend approximately 80% of your time coding and 20% on architecture, technical design, and implementation. Design and implement scalable, modular, and testable Android architectures. Build tools, libraries, and platform capabilities that enable other Android developers. Serve as an Android technology expert, staying current with the latest Android technologies, tools, and development practices. Drive technical decisions and help determine the best technology and implementation approaches. Evaluate and introduce new technologies and development approaches, including proofs of concept and experimental work. Review technical designs from other teams and provide guidance on complex engineering challenges. Help shape long-term Android platform strategy and development standards. Mentor senior engineers and lead by example, without direct people management responsibilities. Create technical design documentation and communicate technical risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Explore and implement AI-enabled development workflows and integrations, with a strong focus on improving developer productivity. Own automated and manual testing to ensure production-ready, shippable code. What You Bring 8+ years of professional Android development experience, including 3+ years in an architectural or technical leadership capacity. Deep expertise in Kotlin, including Coroutines and Flow. Strong experience with Jetpack Compose and legacy Android XML.Strong understanding of modern Android architecture and application state management. Experience with Gradle Kotlin DSL and Android build systems. Experience working on an Android platform, foundation, or developer tooling team is a strong plus. Experience building tools, libraries, SDKs, or reusable components for other developers. Experience implementing or integrating AI development workflows and tools. Experience with MCP servers or similar AI/agent integrations is highly desirable. Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts, risks, and tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders. Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction without direct people management.
Contract Details: Long-term contract with potential opportunity to convert to a permanent position. Remote opportunity; candidates located in Pittsburgh are a plus. Candidates must be able to work Eastern Time hours.
