About the role

Some engineers design equipment. Others figure out how to keep it running when something goes wrong. If you've ever had to evaluate a leaking flange, engineer a temporary repair, or determine whether a pressure vessel can safely stay in service, you know the difference. Per Sé Group is looking for a Fixed Equipment Maintenance Engineer to support an operating refinery in Lemont, IL, while its internal engineering team prepares for a major 2028 turnaround. This is hands-on refinery engineering, where your recommendations directly influence maintenance decisions and equipment reliability.
What you'll be doing: Troubleshoot leaks, equipment failures, and mechanical integrity concerns involving pressure vessels, piping, heat exchangers, and other stationary equipment. Develop repair recommendations, engineering packages, material lists, and detailed work scopes. Evaluate temporary repairs, hot taps, line stops, in-service welding, and bolted-joint issues. Work alongside Maintenance, Operations, and Inspection teams to solve equipment problems in the field. Ensure repair solutions meet applicable ASME/API codes and refinery standards. Support equipment inspections, investigate recurring failures, and help prevent problems from happening again. Review replacement equipment, vendor packages, and technical specifications. Here's what makes this opportunity worth a conversation:$70–$78/hour, based on experience. Long-term stability: Contract expected to extend into 2028.$100/day per diem for eligible travelers, plus mobilization/demobilization mileage reimbursement. Predictable schedule: Monday–Friday, approximately 7 AM–4 PM, with limited off-hours support as needed. Meaningful technical ownership: You'll solve real operating refinery problems rather than spend your days managing project schedules. You'll feel at home here if you've supported fixed equipment in an operating refinery or petrochemical facility, know your way around ASME/API standards, and can turn an equipment problem into a practical, code-compliant repair plan. You understand the difference between identifying a problem and engineering the solution. Interested in hearing more about the refinery, the team, or the contract? Let's have a conversation. No commitment needed. Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
