About the role
Diesel Mechanic The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing B&B Rail Tech's fleet of Mack road tractors, rear-mounted material handling cranes, hi-rail trucks, and heavy railroad equipment. This shop-based position requires a skilled mechanic who can troubleshoot diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, brakes, and specialty equipment. The position may also respond to occasional road calls when equipment becomes disabled at a job site.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic or in a similar mechanical repair position. Strong knowledge of automotive and diesel diagnostics, electrical systems, and equipment repair. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to pass a drug screen. Clean driving record. Ability to commute to Shepherdsville, Kentucky 40165, or relocate prior to beginning employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working on Mack trucks. Experience operating or repairing heavy equipment. Experience with hydraulic, crane, fabrication, or specialty railroad equipment. WORK SCHEDULE AND ENVIRONMENTThe normal schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Occasional weekend work and road calls may be required. The primary work location is the B&B Rail Tech shop in Shepherdsville, Kentucky. The mechanic will work on a varied fleet that includes diesel road tractors, hydraulic and electrical systems, cranes, hi-rail trucks, and rail-bound material handling equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform routine preventive maintenance and repairs on diesel engines, trucks, and related heavy equipment. Diagnose mechanical problems and identify the root cause of equipment failures. Perform brake repairs and ensure repairs meet applicable safety standards. Troubleshoot and repair electrical and hydraulic systems throughout the fleet. Operate heavy equipment, including cranes, as necessary to diagnose and complete repairs. Fabricate parts and components when necessary to complete repairs. Use diagnostic software, tools, and testing equipment effectively. Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance performed. Respond to occasional road calls when trucks or equipment become disabled at a job site. Work collaboratively with team members to complete repairs and projects in a timely manner.
