About Broadway Housing Communities (BHC)Founded in 1983, Broadway Housing Communities (BHC) is a community-based nonprofitcommitted to addressing the challenges of poverty and homelessness among adults, children, and families in Upper Manhattan. BHC has developed five supportive housing buildings that provide permanent, affordablehousing and holistic services for individuals and families living in deep poverty. Our workincludes an award-winning early childhood center and opportunities for community engagementthrough the arts. BHC’s flagship project in the National Historic District of Sugar Hill features 124 units of affordable housing, an early childhood education center, and the Sugar Hill Children’s Museum of Art & Storytelling, along with other vital community facilities.
Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and committed Family Services Advocate, under generalsupervision, who provides support to our Family Services Manager, education staff, enrolledstudents and families, while following BHC policies and procedures, Head Start and NYCDepartment of Education Performance Standards, Article 47, and other guidelines. Responsibilities include building positive goal-oriented relationships with families and children, committing to create and sustain an ongoing partnership that supports family well-being, upwardmobility, honoring and supporting the parent-child relationships that are key to a child's healthydevelopment, school readiness, and overall well-being.
Key Responsibilities: Learn and know about the Head Start program, policies and regulations. Serve as a liaison between the school, parent, and community. Engage with families professionally, respectfully and consistently.   Interviewing families and maintaining an active waiting list Supporting recruitment plans and efforts Completing two home visits per school year, at minimum. Partnering with the parent/s to complete the Family Needs Assessment (FNA), Profiles, and goal-setting Personally ensure all families are aware of agency events Assist in all parent and family-related activities including elections, parent meetings, and orientation; also, in making appointments and referrals, when necessary Serve as a liaison between the school, parent, and community. Collecting and sharing with parents, resources, and information that will assist them in accomplishing goals and addressing other needs. Identifying individual or group family needs based on the Family Needs Assessment and Family Profile; assist the FSM in developing workshops and activities that promote growth and development. Meeting monthly with teachers to share relevant information about the children and their well-being and progress. Ensure teachers have current paperwork and information pertaining to the child and family. Maintain accurate child, health, and family records.
Qualifications & Skills: Education Minimum: High School Diploma or GED and a Family Service Credential (credentialed and completed Social Work course or enrolled in Head Start/school study plan)1- 2 years of experience of working with families and/or in a school environment working with preschool aged students Professional and efficient communication and teamwork skills Must have a flexible and positive work attitude and ethic Knowledge of Head Start policies and performance standards, is not a mandatory but is a plusAPPLICATION:To apply for this position, please email your resume, cover letter with salary requirements, to Please indicate your last name and \"Family Services Advocate – Educational Support Services\" in the subject line.
