Veterinary Receptionist / Veterinary Assistant Part-Time Frankenmuth Birch Run Veterinary Hospital | Frankenmuth, MIAt Frankenmuth Birch Run Veterinary Hospital, we believe exceptional veterinary care starts with a strong, supportive team. We are looking for a friendly, dependable, and motivated Part-Time Veterinary Receptionist with the ability to assist our clinical team when needed. This position will primarily focus on front-desk and client service responsibilities, but previous veterinary assistant or animal-handling experience is highly preferred. The ideal candidate is someone who is comfortable communicating with clients, working in a fast-paced environment, learning new technology, and jumping in to support the medical team when needed. This position will begin with limited part-time hours, with the opportunity for hours and responsibilities to grow toward the end of the year based on hospital needs, performance, and availability.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Reception & Client Service
  • Greet clients and patients in a friendly, professional manner
  • Check patients in and out of the hospital
  • Schedule appointments and maintain an organized appointment calendar
  • Answer incoming phone calls and assist with client questions
  • Record accurate messages and communicate information to doctors and team members
  • Process invoices, payments, deposits, and other client transactions
  • Maintain accurate patient and client information within the practice management system
  • Assist with prescription requests according to hospital protocols
  • Communicate with clients regarding appointments, prescription pickups, records, and follow-up needs
  • Handle incoming and outgoing email, mail, medical records, and other correspondence
  • Assist clients with pet food, supplements, preventatives, and other hospital products
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming reception and waiting area
  • Provide excellent customer service, even during busy or emotionally difficult situations
  • Work closely with doctors, technicians, assistants, and management to keep patient flow running smoothly
  • Veterinary Assistant Support
  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during appointments and treatments
  • Safely restrain dogs, cats, and other patients using compassionate, low-stress handling techniques
  • Help prepare exam rooms and treatment areasAssist with cleaning and resetting rooms between appointments
  • Help transport patients between reception, exam rooms, and treatment areasAssist with basic patient care and hospital cleaning duties
  • Help maintain stocked and organized exam rooms and treatment areas
  • Support the medical team during busy periods as directed
  • Assist with laboratory samples, procedures, or other clinical tasks based on demonstrated training and competency
  • Skills / Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous veterinary reception, veterinary assistant, animal care, medical reception, or customer service experience preferred
  • Veterinary assistant experience is strongly preferred
  • Comfortable handling dogs and cats of various sizes and temperaments
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Comfortable working with computers, phones, email, and veterinary practice-management software
  • Ability to learn new technology and hospital protocols
  • Professional, positive, and team-oriented attitude
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment
  • Dependable and willing to assist wherever needed
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures
  • Ability to maintain client and patient confidentiality
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and safely stoop, bend, kneel, and remain on your feet for extended periods
