About the role

American Traveler is hiring an LPN for a critical access hospital's ER/MedSurg/Swing Bed unit, requiring ACLS, BLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications along with 2 years of experience.
Requirements:
  • Active State or Compact (NLC) LPN license required if applicable for the state submitting
  • Minimum 2 years of experience requiredBLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications requiredEPIC EMR experience preferred
  • Understanding of dementia, stroke, and geriatric skin care required
  • Must be comfortable titrating drips including electrolytes, hypertensives, IV antibiotics, and blood transfusions
  • Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
Responsibilities: Critical access rural hospital with 25 bedsER/MedSurg/Swing Bed combined unit Nurse:
  • Patient ratio of 1:8 utilizing team nursing model
  • Patient population includes dementia, dependent older adults, diabetes, post-acute rehab, geriatric care, ER trauma, and chronic illness exacerbations
  • Administers IV medications, fluids, and blood transfusions, and titrates drips including electrolytes, hypertensive medications, IV antibiotics, and blood transfusions
  • Charge nurse present each shift with team-based assignments rather than individual patient assignmentsCNAs/Nurse Aides present on each shift
  • Patient-managed CPAP only; RNs troubleshoot but do not manage RT equipment beyond thisRNs must read and interpret their own telemetry strips
  • Uses EPIC EMR12-hour shifts scheduled 0645-1915 and 1845-0715, covering days and nights as needed
  • Team and block scheduling available, block scheduling must be requested
  • Every other weekend requirement
  • Alternating holiday requirement, typically every other holiday
  • Floats to ER and MedSurg units as needed
  • No call or standby requirement
  • Provide direct patient care across ER, MedSurg, and Swing Bed populations including wound care, IV therapy, and initial trauma assessment3 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
  • Scrubs required, no specific color designated
  • No clinical involvement required outside standard unit duties
  • Candidates must not have been employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility and may not be concurrently employed by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility
  • Upfront RTO must be 7 days or less per 13-week contract, with no additional RTO approved after submission
