About the role
Submit your SHOCK ART Design for Community Vote
Are you interested in applying to be a Shock Art artist in 2026?
Follow these steps:
Create a hand-painted model 11”L x 10”W x 7.25”H
The design needs to be uniquely your own, and hand painted.
Deliver your model to one of the drop off locations before Friday April 17 Longmont Library 409 4th Ave. Longmont CO 80501 | Mon-Thurs 9a.m. – 8p.m; Fri-Sat 9a.m. – 5p.m; Sun 1p.m. – 5p.m.
Longmont Downtown District Authority (LDDA) 320 Main Street Longmont CO 80501 | Mon-Thurs 9a.m. – 5p.m; Fri 9a.m. – 4p.m; Closed weekends.
After all submissions are submitted, the models will go on display (between April 20 and May 19) for the community to vote. The boxes with the most votes win the commission. Selected artists are compensated $2,000 for their time and materials. Up to 10 boxes are selected each year for a commission and painting happens in the summer and through the fall.
THEME 2026 is a historic anniversary year for both our state of Colorado (150 years) and our country (250 years). Alongside the open theme, we will commission at least one design inspired by the historic anniversaries. Artists may submit an artwork with one theme, but not both.

Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
