Description: Founded in 1965, the Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) is a social services organization advancing the social and economic well-being of immigrant and low-income New Yorkers through holistic services and community-led impact. CPC is the nation's largest Asian American social services organization and serves as a trusted community anchor to over 80,000 community members who are served by CPC annually through 50+ high-quality programs and services across 35 sites in New York City. CPC Education and Career Services (ECS) provides dynamic programs and activities that bridge youth and adults with their highest educational, economic, and leadership potential. ECS believes it is never too early or too late to start learning, which is why we use an asset-based approach to maximize clients' current strengths. Whether in our schools, community centers, or internship sites, ECS creates equitable learning environments that promote leadership development, self-advocacy, and community building. Our programs equip clients with essential skills and experiences today so that they are empowered to take the next step tomorrow. The After-School Program at FDR High School offers youth participants a wide range of enrichment workshops to promote lifelong skills needed to succeed academically, socially, and professionally. These workshops include, but are not limited to, academic tutoring, college and work readiness, leadership development, guest speaker series, mentoring opportunities, and recreational activities. The After-School Program at FDR High School offers a Part-Time/Seasonal Peer Mentor/Tutor to provide mentorship and tutoring in a variety of subjects to students during program operations.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Provide high school students individual and/or in a small group setting homework help assistance and tutoring in the following subject matter (preferably in STEM/English):Mathematics (e.g., Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus)
  • Science (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, and Physics)
  • English Language ArtHistoryProvide academic guidance and mentorship to fellow students as they navigate high school and into adulthood.
  • Assist with the administrative aspects of the CPC programming through data entry, compiling, filing, and organizing participant folders.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Director.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
  • Prior tutoring experience, more so with the high school youth population.
  • Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong work ethic and demonstrated passion for youth development.
  • Bilingual in English and Arabic, Mandarin, Cantonese, and/or Spanish is preferred.
Compensation & Benefits: Overview$17.00 - $18.50 per hour, up to 10 hours per week with occasional weekends as needed. CPC offers eligible part-time staff members mandatory benefits, including paid New York State sick time.
