Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Sanitation Supervisorto oversee sanitation operations within acold food distribution warehouse. This position is responsible for leading the sanitation team, maintaining a clean and sanitary facility, and ensuring all cleaning procedures meet company, food safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
The ideal candidate will have experience supervising sanitation or janitorial teams in afood production, food distribution, cold storage, warehouse, or similar environment. This role requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and the ability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise, train, and schedule sanitation employees to ensure proper staffing and coverage.
Oversee daily cleaning and sanitation of warehouse areas, equipment, floors, drains, coolers, freezers, docks, and other facility areas.
Ensure sanitation procedures are completed according to establishedSOPs, SSOPs, food safety, and company standards.
Inspect completed sanitation work and address deficiencies promptly.
Maintain sanitation schedules, checklists, logs, and other required documentation.
Ensure proper use, storage, labeling, and handling of cleaning chemicals and sanitation equipment.
Monitor employee compliance with PPE, safety procedures, and food safety requirements.
Coordinate sanitation activities with warehouse and operations teams to minimize disruption to production and distribution activities.
Identify sanitation, safety, or maintenance concerns and communicate them to management.
Assist with inspections, audits, and corrective actions related to sanitation and food safety.
Maintain appropriate inventory levels of cleaning supplies, chemicals, PPE, and sanitation equipment.
Coach and develop sanitation employees, including addressing attendance, performance, and safety issues.
Ensure sanitation employees follow proper procedures when working incold storage and refrigerated environments.
Participate in facility deep-cleaning projects and other sanitation initiatives as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Required Qualifications:
Previous supervisory or lead experience insanitation, janitorial services, food distribution, food manufacturing, warehouse operations, or a related environment.
Experience working in arefrigerated or cold-storage environmentpreferred.
Strong understanding of cleaning and sanitation practices.
Ability to train, direct, and hold employees accountable for performance.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to read and follow SOPs, safety procedures, and chemical handling instructions.
Ability to work in cold temperatures for extended periods.
Basic computer and documentation skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, and management.
Schedule & Availability
This position requires schedule flexibility based on business and operational needs.
Must be available to workweekends and holidaysas scheduled.
Blackout dates apply, and time-off requests may be restricted during peak business periods.
Schedule may include early mornings, evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Must be dependable and willing to adjust schedules when operational needs require additional coverage.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in refrigerated and cold-storage areas.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and reach as needed.
Ability to lift and carry cleaning supplies and equipment.
Ability to safely operate or work around sanitation equipment and cleaning chemicals.
Ability to wear required PPE for extended periods.
Preferred Experience:
Food distribution or food manufacturing experience
Cold storage / refrigerated warehouse experience
Sanitation Supervisor or Sanitation Lead experience
HACCP, GMP, SSOP, or food safety experience
Experience with sanitation audits and inspections
Chemical handling and safety experience
Experience managing a high-volume sanitation team
