Senior Accountant
Location:
Westbury, New York, United States (On-site)The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in managing and executing key accounting functions to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance within a fast-growing apparel company. This position will focus on cash flow management, payment processing, cost accounting, and margin analysis, while supporting internal controls and partnering closely with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Cash Flow & Treasury Management Manage daily cash flow operations, including forecasting and monitoring liquidity needs. Oversee payment processing to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with company policies. Maintain and reconcile bank accounts, providing visibility to support business operations and financial planning. General Ledger & Financial Reporting Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, ensuring accurate classification and posting of all financial transactions. Prepare, review, and post journal entries (accruals, prepaids, intercompany transactions, and reclasses).Perform detailed monthly balance sheet reconciliations (bank accounts, inventory, AP, AR, and other key accounts).Reconcile sub-ledgers (inventory, AP, AR) to the general ledger and investigate discrepancies. Monitor and reconcile intercompany balances; ensure proper eliminations in consolidated financials. Analyze trial balances, investigate unusual transactions, and ensure compliance with GAAP.Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Support month-end and year-end closing processes. Systems & Process Improvement Assist in designing and maintaining the chart of accounts to support reporting and scalability. Support ERP system implementations or upgrades, including mapping GL accounts for new product categories, warehouses, or sales channels. Coordinate monthly close tasks with extended international accounting teams. Prepare audit schedules and provide documentation for external audits. Payroll & Cross-Functional Support Partner with HR to coordinate payroll processing and ensure accurate department coding for financial reporting. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align financial processes with operational needs.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance (required).CPA designation (preferred).3–5 years of accounting experience, with emphasis on cash flow and treasury management; apparel, retail, or consumer goods industry experience preferred. Strong understanding of GAAP.Experience with ERP systems. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, IF statements).Detail-oriented with strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Experience with wholesale, DTC, and marketplace (Amazon, Shopify, etc.) accounting flows.
