About the role

Editor, Digital ContentInspira Education Group is one of the fastest-growing edtech startups in the US. We started with a simple mission to democratize access to high-quality coaching so that every student in the world has an equal opportunity to access the best opportunities. As the world's leading network of top admissions coaches in medical, legal, business, and college studies, we're building software and services in one place—disrupting long-entrenched application processes with products and experiences that strive to provide an equal platform for candidates from diverse backgrounds worldwide. As one of the fastest-growing edtech firms in the world, we are backed by some of the leading venture capital firms and investors in the world, including Zeev Ventures, Quiet Capital, Craft Ventures and Jeff Fluhr (Founder of Stubhub). The RoleInspira is looking for an Editor, Digital Content to establish the quality bar for everything we publish. This is a senior individual contributor role for someone who can catch a misplaced modifier and a misleading heading structure in the same read-through, who edits with the authority to push back on subject-matter experts, and who understands how content actually gets found, read, and cited — by people and by AI systems alike. You'll work directly with coaches, subject-matter experts, and the content team to take drafts from rough to publish-ready across our blog, guides, and marketing content spanning medical, legal, business, and college admissions. You'll be equally comfortable tightening a sentence and explaining why it needed tightening, so the writers you work with get better every time you touch their work. This role also sits at the center of how Inspira thinks about content quality as a discipline - from house style to editorial workflow to how we prepare content for an AI-driven search landscape. This is an in-person role that requires 5 days a week attendance in our NYC office (Gramercy)What You'll DoEdit for quality, at the sentence and structure levelCatch spelling, grammar, factual, and formatting errors before anything shipsRewrite passive constructions into active voice; push plain language over jargonCut words that don't add meaning; tighten bloated sentencesVerify heading hierarchy (H1 → H2 → H3) is logical and accurateTrace claims, stats, and quotes back to primary sources; flag anything unverifiedDefine proper nouns and terms on first mention within each section, not just once at the topOwn and apply the style guideApply Inspira's house style consistently - punctuation, capitalization, formatting, toneFlag deviations rather than silently fixing them, so writers internalize the rulesEvolve the guide as our content and audience grow, building buy-in rather than dictatingEdit for how content is found and used — by readers and by AIMatch content format to search intent (listicle for transactional, guide for informational)Ensure sections lead with the point in the first sentence or two, rather than burying itBreak content into self-contained chunks that each answer one question clearly, so they can be cited in isolation by a skimming reader or a summarizing LLMStructure key claims as clear subject–predicate–object statements, easy for readers and retrieval systems alikeSpot phrasing that reads like it was written for a crawler instead of a person, and fix itCheck that link text is specific and descriptive, never generic filler like "click here"Raise the bar on originality and expertiseEvaluate whether a piece adds real value - original data, an expert quote, first-hand experience - versus restating what's already out thereAssess whether content demonstrates real expertise through sourcing, credentials, and depth, not just polishKnow the difference between what AI can generate on its own and what requires a human's lived experience or judgment - and push writers toward the latterBuild the systems behind great contentDesign and document repeatable editorial workflows - briefs, review stages, approval gates - so quality doesn't depend on any one personGive writers specific, actionable feedback that explains the principle behind each change, not just the fixRegularly audit top-performing content and ask: why would someone choose this over everything else on the topic?Understand where each piece fits within Inspira's broader content strategyWho You AreRequired5+ years of professional editing experience - digital publishing, content marketing, or similar — with before/after samples you can walk us throughExcellent command of grammar, structure, and style, paired with the judgment to know when a rule should flexExperience owning or meaningfully shaping a house style guideA track record of feedback that makes a writer's next draft better, not just the current oneGenuine curiosity about how AI and AI-driven search are changing content structure and discovery, with practical experience adapting to itComfort working with subject-matter experts and non-professional writers, including pushing back diplomatically but firmlyStrong organizational skills managing editorial workflow across multiple pieces and stakeholdersAbility to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven startup environmentPreferredExperience editing for a competitive, high-stakes audience (admissions, higher ed, professional services, or similar)Familiarity with SEO fundamentals - intent matching, natural anchor text, avoiding over-optimizationExperience building or documenting editorial processes from scratchBackground in content strategy, not just line editingWhy you'll love InspiraAmazing people with a great vision and valuesMission-driven team culture focused on student successYour work directly impacts the lives and careers of students across the globeHealth, dental, and vision insurance, base plans 100% employer paidPre-tax benefits (HSA, FSA, DCFSA, Commuter)Flexible paid time off (PTO) and paid holidays401(k) with company matchThe total compensation for this role is $85,000 - 100,000. Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
