About the role
- Oversee the quality and effectiveness of resident programming across the Nursing Center and Assisted Living communities.
- Develop and implement group and one-on-one therapeutic programming based on residents' individual needs, preferences, and abilities.
- Evaluate programming through feedback from residents, families, leadership, and other appropriate sources and implement improvements as needed.
- Coordinate programming between the Nursing Center and Assisted Living to promote a consistent and engaging resident experience.
- Ensure programming staff time and resources are used effectively to meet resident needs. Support Resident Care & Compliance
- Ensure required state and federal activity documentation is completed accurately and on time.
- Oversee completion of activity components of resident assessments, MDS documentation, care plans, and activity progress notes.
- Participate in interdisciplinary care planning and other meetings to support person-centered resident care.
- Maintain department policies and procedures and ensure programming complies with applicable regulations and organizational standards. Lead & Develop the Team
- Supervise, evaluate, and support Activity Department staff while assigning responsibilities based on resident needs and departmental priorities.
- Establish a positive, productive work environment through effective communication, training, delegation, and performance management.
- Interview candidates, make hiring recommendations, and provide ongoing training and cross-training as appropriate.
- Lead by example while promoting professionalism, teamwork, and Baptist Senior Family's values. Coordinate Volunteers
- Lead the volunteer program, including volunteer interviews, screening, orientation, training, placement, scheduling, and supervision.
- Establish volunteer performance standards and monitor volunteer activities to ensure quality service.
- Build positive relationships with volunteers and address concerns or grievances with professionalism and diplomacy.
- Track volunteer hours and assist with the volunteer program budget.
- Recognize and appreciate volunteers through ongoing recognition and special appreciation events. Manage Department Operations
- Prepare and manage the annual activity programming budget in consultation with administration.
- Ensure appropriate supplies and inventory are ordered and maintained to support resident programs.
- Maintain the department's policies and procedures manual and review and update procedures at least annually.
- Participate in Quality Improvement, Leadership, events, and other organizational committees as requested.
- Identify educational and professional development needs within the department and provide training within the departmental budget. Promote Resident-Centered Service
- Work collaboratively with residents, families, staff, and volunteers to create a person-centered environment.
- Ensure the community's "Culture of Wellness" is reflected in programming and resident services.
- Maintain resident confidentiality and privacy while using discretion when discussing resident matters.
- Respond to resident, family, and staff concerns with tact, professionalism, and effective communication.
- Provide direct recreational services to residents as appropriate.
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; or one to two years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop and oversee engaging therapeutic and recreational programming.
- Ability to supervise, train, evaluate, and effectively delegate responsibilities to staff.
- Ability to coordinate and manage a volunteer program.
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with applicable requirements.
- Ability to work effectively with residents, families, staff, volunteers, leadership, and outside providers.
- Experience in senior living, long-term care, healthcare, recreation, or resident programming.
- Experience developing therapeutic or person-centered programming for older adults.
- Experience supervising employees and/or volunteers.
- Experience with regulatory documentation, care planning, or interdisciplinary teams.
