About the Role: Our client is seeking a skilled Horticulturist with a specialization in viticulture to join their esteemed vineyard operations near George. This role focuses on the meticulous cultivation and care of grapevines to produce high-quality fruit for wine production. You will be responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring all horticultural practices within the vineyard, ensuring the health and productivity of the vines. The successful candidate will combine scientific knowledge with practical application to manage vineyard health, optimize yield, and contribute to the estate's reputation for excellence.
Key Responsibilities: Develop and execute a comprehensive vineyard management plan, focusing on sustainable and organic practices. Monitor vine health, identify diseases and pests, and implement timely and effective control measures. Manage irrigation systems, soil nutrition programs, and pruning techniques to maximize grape quality and yield. Oversee seasonal vineyard activities, including planting, canopy management, and harvesting operations. Maintain detailed records of vineyard activities, inputs, yields, and quality assessments. Collaborate with winemakers to ensure grape quality meets specific varietal and stylistic requirements.
Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Viticulture, Plant Science, or a related agricultural discipline. Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in vineyard management or viticulture. Solid understanding of grapevine physiology, soil science, and integrated pest management (IPM). Experience with precision agriculture techniques and vineyard technology is a plus. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in an outdoor, agricultural setting.
