Aerospace Pyrotechnic Systems Engineer — Metro Detroit, MI
Compensation: $120,000–$150,000 base + annual bonus + signing bonus

At a privately held, long-established propulsion manufacturer, you will be the technical owner of pyrotechnic and energetic components—initiators, igniters, gas generators—shaping them from first concept through qualification. A day in the role Kick off with requirements: translate performance needs into clear, testable specifications and verification plans. Move into design: engineer components and propellants, run analyses, and collaborate with manufacturing to ensure producibility. Head to the lab: plan and conduct development and qualification tests; reduce data and interpret results to guide design decisions. Close the loop: prepare test plans, technical reports, and documentation suites for internal and customer review. Ensure compliance: interpret applicable government regulations, standards, and safety procedures for energetic devices.
What you bring: 10+ years leading development and qualification of energetic components. Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Chemical Engineering; Project Management also considered. Working knowledge of requirements verification and validation (V&V).Familiarity with ammunition and explosive certification processes. Excellent analytical, organizational, and documentation skills with strong attention to detail. Clear, concise technical writing and presentation abilities.
