Job Description: Performs specified duties for the set-up, handling and maintenance of surgical supplies, instruments and equipment necessary during a surgical procedure. Acts as first assist to the surgeon, performing various duties as outlined in the scope of practice for the certification. Understands the procedure being performed and works under medical supervision to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.
Qualifications: Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or other prerequisite educational background to satisfy eligibility to enter the Surgical Assist Program. Must be a graduate of the Surgical Assistant Training Program and be certified as Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Surgical Assistant-Certified (SA-C) by the American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA).Current BLS will be required to demonstrate competence in the performance of duties specific to all age groups of : New graduates will be considered; however, one year of previous surgical tech experience is preferred. Given training and on-the-job experience incumbent should be proficient in basic aspects of the job within 6 months.
