About the role
General Manager Confidential Search | Student TransportationA well-established organization in the student transportation industry is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead a local operation. This is an opportunity for a hands-on, people-first leader who thrives on developing teams, building strong customer partnerships, driving operational excellence, and taking ownership of financial performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Own the overall performance, operations, and results of the local operation. Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a diverse team across operations, dispatch, routing, maintenance, safety, and administration. Create a customer-centric culture focused on service excellence, strong partnerships, and customer retention. Develop and execute operating plans aligned with broader business goals and objectives. Manage budgets and participate in the development of annual operating plans and business reviews. Develop short- and long-term strategies to drive revenue growth, profitability, and operational performance. Take ownership of the operation's P&L and financial results. Partner with regional leadership to address operational challenges, resource needs, and business priorities. Build and maintain strong relationships with school district administrators, customers, employees, community organizations, and government partners. Regularly review service quality and performance with customers and identify opportunities for improvement. Establish and maintain a strong culture of safety, accountability, and high-quality service. Identify safety and operational risks and take appropriate corrective action. Support business development and sales initiatives, including gathering information and assisting with proposals and new business opportunities. Lead by example with integrity, professionalism, and strong ethical business practices.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field OR 10+ years of comparable experience; MBA preferred.3+ years of supervisory or management experience with P&L oversight. Demonstrated success leading and developing teams. Proven ability to deliver strong customer service, safety, and operational results. Strong financial, business planning, and problem-solving skills. Experience managing customer relationships and resolving complex operational issues. Knowledge of risk assessment and the ability to make sound business decisions. Understanding of contract administration and/or RFP processes is a plus. Strong knowledge of leadership and management practices. Bilingual skills are a plus.
