Bring your cosmetology experience into the classroom and help develop the next generation of licensed beauty professionals. Tri-Rivers Career Center is seeking a licensed Long-Term Substitute Cosmetology Instructor to provide classroom and clinic-floor instruction while the regular cosmetology instructor is absent. This position is a great opportunity for a licensed cosmetology professional who wants to share their expertise with students. The substitute instructor will deliver established lesson plans, supervise student clinical practice, ensure a safe and sanitary salon environment, and maintain compliance with Ohio Cosmetology and Barber Board regulations and school policies. Instruction will follow the program's established lesson plans and curriculum, and may include: Cosmetology theory and classroom instruction Clinical and salon-floor practice State board sanitation, safety, and infection-control standards Safe use of tools, chemicals, and salon equipment Professionalism and client service on the clinic floor
What You'll Do: As a substitute instructor, you will:
  • Deliver instruction from established lesson plans and curriculum in the instructor's absence
  • Supervise and evaluate student performance in theory and clinical/salon-floor practice
  • Enforce all state board sanitation, safety, and infection-control standards
  • Monitor student use of tools, chemicals, and equipment for safe practice
  • Maintain accurate attendance and, where applicable, clock-hour or practical-hour documentation
  • Manage classroom and clinic behavior and maintain a professional learning environment
  • Communicate any incidents, concerns, or instructional gaps to the Director of Curriculum or building administration
  • Follow all Tri-Rivers Career Center policies and procedures during the assignment
The work takes place in a combination of classroom and cosmetology clinic/salon lab settings and involves standing for extended periods, exposure to chemical products used in cosmetology services, and use of standard salon equipment.
Job Requirements: Per the Ohio Cosmetology and Barber Board, candidates must meet all of the following:
  • At least 18 years of age
  • The equivalent of an Ohio public school 12th grade education
  • A current, valid Advanced Practicing license in the same scope of practice as the instructor license (e.g., Cosmetology, Esthetics, Manicuring, Natural Hair Design, Hair Design)
One of the following experience pathways:1,800 hours of practice in a licensed beauty salon in that scope of practice, ORCompletion of a board-approved Apprentice Instructor Program (Cosmetology 1,000 hours; Hair Design 800; Natural Hair Design 400; Esthetics 500; Manicurist 300)A current, valid Cosmetology or Branch of Cosmetology Instructor License issued by the Ohio Cosmetology and Barber Board, or eligibility to obtain one prior to start Ability to pass a BCI/FBI background check per Ohio school employment requirements ScheduleThis is a long-term substitute position beginning November 1, 2026.
