About the role
The Hearing Officer for the Indiana Department of Revenue's legal team resolves taxpayer appeals through written final determinations and negotiated settlements. You will conduct administrative hearings, perform legal research on Indiana tax law, and serve as an impartial decision maker evaluating the merits of taxpayer arguments. The role also includes advising other DOR sections and ensuring compliance with Indiana tax law.
Key qualifications:
Must be licensed and active in good standing to practice law in Indiana
Excellent writing and communication skills
Knowledge of or ability to learn Indiana tax law and federal/state/local legal procedures
Experience conducting legal research and analysis
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Power Point, Teams)
Self-directed problem solver with ability to work collaboratively
