Position Description: The Development Associate supports the fundraising and partnership activities of the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) and the HNBA VIA Fund, helping build and maintain the systems, outreach, and follow-through that drive sustainable revenue growth. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Associate plays a hands-on role in corporate sponsorships, donor engagement, prospect development, fundraising campaigns, and development operations. The position coordinates the organization's fundraising pipeline—from prospect research and outreach through proposals, follow-up, fulfillment, and stewardship—helping ensure that opportunities continue moving forward and commitments are delivered successfully. The Development Associate works closely with the Executive Director,  and colleagues across the organization to support HNBA's conferences, leadership and pipeline programs, scholarships, and strategic initiatives. The position also partners with certain board members, including the Vice President of Fundraising & Development and the broader Development Committee on fundraising initiatives and sponsor and donor engagement.

You are a strong communicator who enjoys working with people and takes pride in providing an exceptional experience for sponsors, donors, and partners. You are curious, resourceful, and comfortable taking ownership of your work while exercising good judgment about when to engage senior leadership. Key Responsibilities: Corporate Partnerships & Fundraising Conduct prospect research to identify corporations, law firms, foundations, and individuals with the potential to support HNBA and HNBA VIA.Conduct routine sponsor and donor outreach and coordinate broader cultivation, solicitation, and renewal efforts in partnership with the Executive Director. Maintain and actively coordinate the development pipeline, ensuring prospects move through appropriate stages and that outreach, follow-up, and next steps occur on schedule. Draft sponsorship proposals, outreach communications, presentations, and other fundraising materials for review and use by the Executive Director and organizational leadership. Coordinate follow-up from sponsor and donor meetings and conversations, ensuring next steps are documented and completed promptly. Track sponsorship and fundraising activity against established goals and identify prospects and opportunities requiring additional attention or follow-up. Coordinate annual and special fundraising campaigns, including year-end giving, Giving Tuesday, and other donor engagement initiatives. Conference & Program Sponsorships Coordinate sponsorship outreach, renewals, and fulfillment for HNBA's Corporate Counsel Conference, Annual Convention, leadership programs, and other organizational initiatives. Maintain sponsorship prospect and renewal calendars and ensure consistent, timely outreach throughout the year. Coordinate sponsor benefits, recognition, registrations, activations, and other deliverables in collaboration with communications, programs, events, and other staff. Serve as a point of contact for sponsors on routine questions, logistics, benefits, and fulfillment, escalating relationship or partnership matters to the Executive Director as appropriate. Help ensure sponsors receive a responsive, organized, and high-quality experience before, during, and after HNBA events. Development Operations & Systems Maintain accurate and timely sponsor, donor, prospect, and fundraising information in Salesforce. Track contacts, opportunities, commitments, next steps, and relationship history to ensure consistent organizational follow-through. Prepare and maintain fundraising reports, dashboards, prospect lists, pipeline updates, and other information used to inform fundraising strategy and decision-making. Coordinate with the finance team on sponsorship invoicing, gift processing, pledge tracking, payment reconciliation, and financial records. Maintain development calendars, sponsorship agreements, files, and other fundraising documentation. Identify opportunities to improve the systems, processes, and tools used to manage HNBA's development activities and work with the Executive Director and other staff to implement improvements. Donor & Sponsor Stewardship Coordinate donor and sponsor acknowledgments, recognition, stewardship communications, and impact updates. Facilitate regular year-round engagement with sponsors and donors beyond individual solicitations and events. Identify opportunities for meaningful sponsor and donor engagement and bring them to the attention of the Executive Director and appropriate staff. Coordinate with colleagues across departments to ensure commitments to sponsors and donors are fulfilled accurately and on time. Provide responsive and professional follow-through to sponsor and donor inquiries and requests. Board & Volunteer Engagement Partner with the Executive Director, Vice President of Fundraising & Development, and Development Committee to advance organizational fundraising initiatives. Coordinate Board- and volunteer-generated sponsor and donor leads, ensuring timely follow-up and tracking. Prepare prospect information, fundraising updates, briefing materials, and other resources for volunteer leaders involved in fundraising. Serve as the staff liaison to the Development Committee and other fundraising-related volunteer groups, as assigned.
Qualifications: Required Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Two to four years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, sponsorships, business development, sales, relationship management, or a related field. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Comfort communicating with prospective and existing sponsors and donors and providing responsive, professional follow-through. Experience using a CRM, donor database, or similar relationship-management system. Ability to work independently, take initiative, and consistently follow through on commitments and next steps. Preferred Experience working for a professional, trade, or member-based association. Experience working with attorneys, law firms, corporate legal departments, or other legal industry organizations. Experience supporting corporate sponsorships or fundraising associated with conferences, conventions, or large-scale professional events. Experience working with or supporting the Hispanic community or other culturally specific communities. Experience with Salesforce. Spanish-language proficiency is a plus. Reporting Relationship
Reports to: Executive Director Travel This position requires periodic travel, including attendance at HNBA's national conferences and other organizational events and meetings. Some evening and weekend work may be required in connection with conferences and special events. Compensation The anticipated salary range for this position is $60,000 - $70,000 annually. The hiring range represents the anticipated starting salary for this position. Placement within the range will be based on a variety of factors, including relevant experience, qualifications, demonstrated skills, internal equity, and organizational needs.
