We all know what a film is without music. You are the one who breathes life, emotion, and rhythm into the pictures, turning our vision into a sensory reality.
About the Film & The Vision
On the abyss. In Berlin. We move with people for whom no role has been provided. Who are not allowed to play a role in our profit-driven society. What chance of life and survival do they have in our world? A world with no escape and no consideration. Together with these people, we explore the boundaries of our time.
“K.” is a contemporary, poetic interpretation of Kafka’s "The Castle," set in modern-day Berlin. We follow five unhoused people on their journey on foot through the city. Much like K. wanders aimlessly through the castle in the novel, they move through their own world in search of a secure position. It is a testing of societal boundaries—raw, poetic, and filled with pitch-black, ironic moments (such as hunting pets for their own sustenance).
Artistic Intent: All five main characters inherently carry both the protagonist and the antagonist within themselves. Every character possesses deeply realistic facets, with their negative traits becoming visible as the film progresses.
What We Are Looking For & Your Responsibilities
For the musical identity of our film, we are looking for a highly experimental and creative Film Composer or Music Collective. The music should not be mere background noise, but should occupy its own radical, unpredictable layer.
Artistically, we want to break traditional boundaries. While a central core element will be the fusion of the human voice and electronic synthesizers, the overall score should thrive on wild, abrupt genre shifts. We do not want a purely electronic soundtrack—we want different musical worlds to collide. From raw electronics to acoustic instruments, classical motifs, or alternative styles: anything is possible.
Your Responsibilities:
Concept: Developing a distinct musical concept (focusing on vocal processing, audio collages, and stylistic shifts) in close collaboration with the director.
Composition & Production: Creating the multi-faceted score for the feature-length film.
Finalization: Recording/producing the tracks and delivering the final stems for the audio mix.
What You Bring to the Team:
Radical Courage to Experiment: You (or your collective) love playing with abrupt genre shifts, multi-genre influences, and harsh stylistic contrasts.
Vocal Processing & Sound Design: You know how to merge and manipulate the human voice with synthesizers, turning it into a completely new, unique instrument.
Versatility: You feel at home in various musical genres and know how to weave both electronic and organic/acoustic elements together.
Reliability & Studio Setup: You work in a structured manner and have the technical capabilities to record and pre-mix this complex score independently.
Application
Since this project is realized on a deferred payment basis (Rückstellungsbasis), we are looking for artists who bring genuine passion for this specific material and want to use this project as an artistic calling card. Applications from composer duos or music collectives are explicitly welcome.
Please note:
You are welcome to submit your application in either German or English, whichever you prefer. /
Please include the following in your application:
Your CV / Filmography (or collective profile) and a link to your website/portfolio.
Meaningful work samples / Showreel (ideally tracks that showcase your versatility, experimental approach, or use of vocals/electronics).
A few words on what draws you to this kafkaesque material and eclectic musical concept.

Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
