About the role

Ophthalmology Technician Assists in the various functions and clinical care of patients in the Divisions Ophthalmology and Neuro-Ophthalmology. This position requires providing service to the following age population(s) infant, pediatric, adult, older adult and frail elderly in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served. An Ophthalmology Technician plays a crucial role in assisting ophthalmologist by performing a variety of technical duties. Direct in-patient & out-patient care, diagnostic testing, and ensuring that patients receive the highest level of service possible. This helps in accurate diagnosis, treatment, and management of eye conditions.
Essential Functions: Taking patient histories, measuring visual acuity and eye pressure, conducting diagnostic imaging (like Humphrey Visual Fields, OCT, Fundus Photography), administering eye medications, assisting with minor surgeries, and updating patient records. Education & Experience Requirements:
  • High School education required.
  • Post-high school ophthalmic assistant education or training required.
  • American Board of Opticianry (ABO); National Contact Lens Examiners (NCLE); Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) Certifications preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology required, ophthalmology CPT and ICD-9-CM coding required.
  • Other CPT and ICD-9-CM coding preferred.
  • Basic computer skills required. Advanced computer skills preferred.
