About This Position: The DOTD Enforcement Sergeant serves as a commissioned law enforcement supervisor within the Weight Enforcement Unit at the Baptist fixed-scale facility. The position oversees daily enforcement operations and subordinate personnel while ensuring state and federal size, weight, permit, registration, and taxation regulations are enforced fairly and consistently. The incumbent provides field supervision, coordinates enforcement objectives with the Police Lieutenant, conducts and oversees investigations, and manages personnel, equipment, records, and administrative responsibilities in accordance with DOTD policies and applicable laws. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Services laws, rules and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid driver's license.
Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification. An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted. Job Duties: Supervise weight enforcement operations by providing field guidance to police officers and compliance inspectors, assigning duties, monitoring enforcement activities, and ensuring state and federal regulations are applied fairly and consistently. Manage personnel and daily operations by assisting with training, briefing staff on policies and regulations, preparing bi-weekly work schedules, maintaining records, communicating directives, and keeping the Police Lieutenant informed of significant matters. Lead and oversee investigations and enforcement activities including major events, evidence handling, seizures, and investigations while ensuring cases are properly conducted, documented, and brought to conclusion. Oversee administrative, equipment, and facility responsibilities by completing required reports and performance evaluations, maintaining equipment and inventories, ensuring supplies are available, processing facility-related bills, and supporting emergency or disaster operations as needed.
