Based in Gainesville, Georgia, we've spent 25 years developing and producing custom treat programs for pet brands, from meat and non-meat treats to our newest Semi-Moist line. Our in-house nutritionist formulates every product, and our on-site Innovation Center is where new ideas turn into real products. In early 2023, Scholtus Group Holding acquired Big Creek Foods, expanding our production capabilities and adding Semi-Moist treats to what we make. Position Overview: Big Creek Foods is looking for a Quality Technician to monitor, check, and test raw, in-process, and finished products to confirm compliance with quality and food safety standards, including internal, customer, and regulatory requirements. This is a full-time, onsite, non-exempt (hourly) role reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager. Hours are typically 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM, 40 hours per week (subject to adjustment based on plant needs).
Key Responsibilities: Apply working knowledge of FDA, FSMA, SQF, HACCP, and SSOP requirements Conduct pre-operational and operational inspections of equipment and facilities Perform environmental sampling of equipment, facilities, and raw and finished products Conduct analytical tests on finished products and/or retain samples as directed; draw composite samples for analysis Coordinate sending production samples to a 3rd party lab for microbiological analysis Perform calibration and checks of x-ray, thermometers, foot baths, and scales Conduct line quality checks to verify packaging, labeling, codes, unit weights, and other parameters Place products on quality or micro hold per company programs; maintain the hold log and communicate product release to appropriate personnel Perform internal audits as required Complete required daily records and documentation for each product line per company programs and customer specifications Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices and the Food Safety & Quality Management System during production; report deficiencies to the QA Manager Maintain and retain all records related to product release, inspections, and analysis Enter test results, internal audits, and other data; routinely check HACCP and MSS paperwork for accuracy and completeness per SQF standards Attend company meetings and support other projects as needed
Requirements
Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED; or one year of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience Working knowledge of quality assurance principles Computer skills, especially Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and WordHACCP certification preferred Net Suite experience a plus, but not required Skills & Attributes Strong attention to detail and thoroughness Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks Self-starter who can work independently Mathematical proficiency Communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills Time management
Physical Requirements: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors Regularly walk, stand, and sit; use hands and fingers to operate a computer and phone; able to stand or sit at a computer for extended periods Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds Works near moving mechanical parts; occasionally exposed to wet/humid conditions, fumes, and toxic or caustic chemicals Moderately noisy work environment Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions Compensation &
