About the role
About The Team & Role: Swirnow Building Systems has been a leader in providing innovative architectural and structural systems and solutions to the design and building communities for over 50 years. We are currently hiring for a Controller who will report to the President of Swirnow Building Systems. The Controller will lead our day-to-day accounting operations while overseeing payroll, employee benefits, insurance administration, and related activities. This is a hands-on role that combines accounting leadership with responsibility for key employee-facing programs and processes.
Job Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Operations:
- Oversee the company’s accounts receivable and accounts payable systems, including procedures, documentation, controls, and recordkeeping.
- Maintain and improve accounting processes and systems to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and appropriate internal controls.
- Manage cost accounting systems and prepare related reporting.
- Manage and reconcile affiliate, related-party, and intercompany transactions.
- Prepare company disbursements using multiple payment methods, ensuring appropriate authorization, documentation, and timely processing.
- Review and process employee expense reports, including appropriate coding, documentation, and approvals.
- Prepare standard financial statements and management reports.
- Manage all activities concerning Accounting and Bookkeeping
- Payroll & Payroll Compliance
- Process biweekly payroll accurately and on a timely basis.
- Manage all quarterly and year-end payroll reporting, filings, reconciliations, and payments.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure appropriate handling of payroll-related taxes and deductions.
- Coordinate with payroll providers and other third parties as necessary to ensure compliance and timely resolution of issues.
Employee Insurance & Benefits:
Serve as a primary internal resource for employees and management on HR, benefits, payroll, and employee-related matters.
Administer the company’s health, dental, vision, life, disability, and other insurance programs, including enrollment, renewals, employee communications, and ongoing administration.
Manage retirement plans and coordinate with plan providers and advisors.
Oversee other employee benefit programs and ensure accurate records and timely communications.
Maintain appropriate employee records and documentation while protecting confidential employee and company information.
Support the company’s compliance with applicable employment, benefits, payroll, and insurance requirements.
Tax, Insurance & Compliance:
Prepare and/or oversee sales tax reporting and payments on various filing schedules.
Prepare single member, pass-thru tax returns and k-1s for related entities.
Maintain records and documentation necessary to support tax filings and regulatory compliance.
Monitor insurance renewals, coverage documentation, certificates, and related administrative requirements.
Familiarity with income tax applications and reporting is a plus.
Qualifications
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s in Accounting and/or Finance 20+ years of experience required
Previous experience in an accounting role; real estate and investment experience a plus Working knowledge of applicable accounting software (Microsoft Dynamics and Sage Accounting Software preferred) Strong, hands-on accounting experience maintaining general ledgers for a multi-company, non-stocking, wholesale distributor. Someone who is detail oriented, a critical thinker, and has strong time management and organizational skills Excellent written and oral communication skills The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Pay Range: $80,000-$110,000
