About the role
Laundry Services FloatWorks under the supervision of the Manager of Laundry Services. The Laundry Services Float's primary job functions will be a blend of Washer Operator, Linen Tech, and Truck Driver responsibilities. These include overseeing the Tunnel Washer computer system and operations that keeps track of multiple washer line-ups, appropriate washing formulas and load weights. Sorts soiled linen in between loads. This also includes collecting, transporting, and processing of soiled healthcare line; in the processing and distributing of clean linen by following organization and department policies and procedures, in order to provide appropriate, timely, and cost-effective linen service to the departments customers. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam required. Ability to read, write, and speak English required.
Licensure:
BMLV required (Must maintain eligibility to drive as determined by SOMC insurance carriers)BLS/AED training course within 90 days of hire required
Experience:
Previous experience in driving delivery vehicles preferred.
Job Specific Duties and Performance Expectations:
The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
Operates the Tunnel Washer computer system appropriately and keeps track of multiple washer line-ups, appropriate washing formulas and load weights.
Backs up Tunnel Washing and RAM systems, troubleshoots problems, and contacts inside/outside service when required.
Sanitizes linen exchange carts.
Sorts soiled linen according to wash classification (formula) and weight.
Loads linen on to soiled washer monorail or into washer/extractor entering correct wash formula and weight.
Unloads dryers and loads clean linen on to monorail, or into laundry cart.
Coordinates and directs the distribution of laundry throughout the Laundry department by maintaining effective wash line-ups through the Tunnel Washing System.
Monitors pumps and maintains appropriate levels for chemicals and salt used in the Tunnel Washer.
Receives, stocks, and changes out chemical barrels from distributor.
Processes (folds and stacks) clean linen by operating ironer, folder, or hand folding.
Builds carts for distributing linen or stacks linen in appropriate clean linen storage area.
Distributes clean linen by exchange cart, or hamper bag to linen users.
Delivers clean linen and picks up soiled linen throughout all departments.
Transports Laundry carts to and from SOMC facilities in a timely and efficient manner based on a reasonable timetable schedule.
Collects soiled linen from the hospital soiled storage room near the dock and various departments and transports carts back to Laundry.
Delivers carts of clean linen to departments.
Operates Laundry vehicles properly and safely and performs daily vehicle inspections.
Inspects the Laundry box truck cargo area after every soiled load and cleans and disinfects any soiled areas before loading clean linen.
Performs weekly pressure wash of the laundry box truck cargo area.
Performs other duties as assigned.
